The Red Dawn

Sean Connery.
Submarines.
Nuclear war.

Miscommunication.
Well, there’s none of that here.
But, this drink truly could be “world ending.”
Yep, it’s that good.
Silky smooth whiskey. Dark rum. Grand Marnier.
Oh, and vanilla brûléed orange and lemon.
You can see it. Now can you taste it?
The Red Dawn
2 oz. good whiskey (291 if you’re from Colorado)
1/2 oz. dark rum
1/4 oz. Grand Marnier*
1 slice fresh orange
1 slice fresh lemon
1 tsp. fine vanilla sugar**
Combine the whiskey, rum, Grand Marnier, and 4 large ice cubes in a large glass.
Meanwhile dust the citrus slices with vanilla sugar and brûlée with a kitchen torch.
Gently stir and strain the whiskey mixture after 3 minutes.
Top with brûléed fruit.
*In case you’re interested, Grand Marnier is basically an orange flavored brandy. You’ve heard of brandy, right? But you’ve also hear of Cognac and Armagnac…what’s the difference? Read a funny little diatribe here.
**Vanilla sugar: Use 1 cup finely grated sugar (powered sugar) and infuse with the insides of 1 scraped vanilla bean for 2-3 weeks for ultimate flavor.
